The PvM Talent System is built to be fully disabled in PvP, by design, not by convention.
How the PvP exclusion actually works
If you’ve been in a PvP fight recently, your character enters a suppressed state. While suppressed, every Azerite talent bonus you have resolves to zero — not reduced, zero — and this is checked fresh at the moment a bonus would apply, never assumed from an earlier check. This suppression gate is already implemented and has already been through its own independent review; it’s one of the more mature pieces of this whole system.
A few things worth knowing about how it behaves:
- It persists through death. If you die in a PvP fight, you’re still suppressed afterward — being resurrected doesn’t clear it.
- It’s earning-side too, not just usage-side. You don’t earn talent XP, and talent-related procs don’t trigger, while suppressed — it’s not just that the bonus doesn’t apply, you don’t progress either.
- A player-owned pet is never a valid target for an offensive talent effect, and this is checked independently of suppression state — you can’t route around the PvP exclusion through a pet.
What’s actually active right now, regardless of PvP
This is worth repeating plainly: no talent’s combat bonus is implemented yet, in PvP or PvM. What exists today is the leveling system, the point-allocation screen, and this PvP-suppression gate itself — all genuine, working infrastructure. The actual Fundamentals/Guardian/Lifebinder/ Reaver bonuses described elsewhere in this wiki are an approved design sitting on top of that infrastructure, waiting to be built. When they do go live, this page’s suppression rules are what will govern them from day one — they weren’t bolted on as an afterthought.
