Type [Talents to open your personal allocation screen. It uses a Draft → Apply model
rather than spending points the instant you click a node.
Draft first, Apply when you’re sure
Clicking a node in the Gump only edits a local draft — nothing is actually spent yet. You can freely plan out a build, change your mind, and reset the draft back to your currently-applied state (Discard) without any risk of wasting a point on a misclick. Only clicking Apply commits the draft for real.
What Apply actually checks
Clicking Apply doesn’t just trust whatever you had open on screen — the server re-checks everything live at that exact moment:
- You’re alive, connected, and not seated in an active Azerite Dungeon run.
- You’re not currently in combat (defined as: no creature damage given or received in the last 10 seconds).
- Every node you drafted still has a valid, continuous path back to its tree’s root under the rules currently in effect.
- You actually still have enough unspent points — if you opened the Gump on one client and spent points from another session in the meantime, Apply catches that instead of letting you overspend.
If any of those fail, Apply is refused with a message explaining why, and nothing is spent.
The unlock rule, in plain terms
A node becomes purchasable once at least one of its listed prerequisites has at least 1 point in it, with a continuous purchased path back to the tree’s root. There’s no level-gating on individual nodes beyond that, and you’re never required to max out a node or reach the end of a branch — partial investment is a completely normal way to build.
Unspent points never expire
If you’d rather save points up for a bigger decision later, they just sit in your pool indefinitely — there’s no use-it-or-lose-it pressure.
